In January, a stellar group of vendors and I decided to host a giveaway for a styled engagement session for one lucky couple. To our joy, so many special couples entered and we selected Mark & Dita (and their sweet pup Odin) as our winners!
While planning their session, it was so lovely to get to know them and learn about their relationship. They had their first date at a the Truck Yard on Greenville and connected over cheesesteaks and beer. Sounds simply perfect (and delicious!) to me. They love to ice skate and go at least once a week, enjoy travel and trying out new restaurants together.
The story behind Dita’s engagement ring is one that is so unique to them and was incredibly intentional on Mark’s part. It has a beautiful aquamarine stone in the middle with a diamond halo and pave band. Aquamarine is Mark’s birthstone and diamond is Dita’s birthstone, so it is a perfect combination! This will also translate to their wedding colors.
When it came time to design their session, I really wanted to incorporate bright colors and their wedding colors, while also paying subtle homage to Dita’s Indonesian heritage. Rita at Rent My Dust had the perfect pieces to do that and what we created with the team is simply magical. Enjoy the stunning images, as we hear a bit more from Mark & Dita about their plans for their wedding in Ohio next summer!
How did you meet?
We met on Tinder and went for our first date at Truck Yard.
When did you know that he was going to be your husband?
About a year ago, I was struggling really hard to find a job. I was unemployed for almost half a year after graduation. It was the most miserable period of my time because my stay here in the US depended on me being able to find a job ASAP. He stuck around and was the most supportive pillar I could ever lean on. He was my #1 cheerleader (and still is!) for my transition from academic research to pharmaceutical industry. He never once loses his faith in me and that’s when I knew that he was going to be the man I spend the rest of my life with.
When did you know she was going to be your wife?
Not long after we officially started dating. We went out to dinner for Dita’s birthday and she got her heel stuck in a crack of the sidewalk. She still look beautiful and yet maintain her silliness.
What excites you about marriage?
The life that we will build together and the journey that we’ll go on.
Describe your wedding in three words.
Celebration of love.
What is your favorite source of wedding inspriation?
What is your favorite part about wedding planning? The least?
Food tasting (!!!) and least would be the budgeting.
What are you most looking forward to about your wedding day?
Seeing both sides of our families meet, since they’ve never met before.
Are you taking a honeymoon? If so, where and what made you choose that destination?
Yes! We haven’t decided on where and what yet though. Most likely a trip to Asia (Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, etc) because Dita wants to show Mark where she grew up.
Do you have any advice for engaged couples?
Enjoy every moment of it and don’t let wedding planning take over your relationship.
What’s next for the two of you after “I Do”?
Honeymoon, planning a family, buying a house and many adventures in ‘adulting’!
Mark and Dita, it has been such a true joy getting to know you and I cannot wait to see all of the beautiful details of your wedding next summer! All my love and best wishes to you both!
xoxo, Jenn
