“Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars” – Ed Sheeran
These two. They met through mutual friends oceans away from home. Their love flourished and grew on the banks of the Iowa River on the University of Iowa campus. I cannot even put into words how they’ve touched my life and I was so honored that it was featured on Midwest Bride last Friday!
Yue reached out to me in February of last year to help plan their intimate vow renewal in the place their relationship blossomed. From the moment we first talked, I knew this couple was special and their day would be just as much so. With both Yue and Yushi living on the West Coast performing their graduate program internships, we had our work cut out for us. Did I mention the big day was in July? Yes, 5 months away!
Their love for animals, family, home (China) and simplicity directed the design. Once we determined their venue and date, everything fell into place beautifully. While they didn’t want too much red or an abundance of traditions, the ones that they focused on were beautifully meaningful and fit them to a ‘T’.
Andrea at AC Designs did a wonderful job elegantly incorporating the Polar Bear graphic the couple loves, as well as all of their collateral. Due to the intimate size of the guest list and short timeline, we opted for e-vites (also designed by Andrea).
Is the Old Capitol Museum on campus not the most beautiful place? The architecture is just swoon-worthy and the light!
The way Yushi makes Yue laugh just melts my heart every, single time.
The personal touches throughout the day were so intentional. Yue’s sister officiated the vow renewal, they wrote their own vows and the love in the room was palpable. Now, I do not speak Chinese, but the emotion in their voices, the loving looks at each other, their inside jokes and special touches were all understood. The fact that true love can conquer anything, even a language barrier, is why I love what I do! The cocktail hour and reception were at the Hotel Vetro in downtown Iowa City. The views were amazing and the atmosphere was so full of love!
I am also so excited to share their wonderful wedding video from Stover Films. It is art and brings me back to the day every, single time I watch it. Enjoy!
Head over to the feature on Midwest Bride to read and see more of this wonderful day! Thank you to Jessie for featuring Yue and Yushi’s wedding.
xoxo, Jenn
