HHE Friends: Macy Marie Photography & Borrow My Vintage Rentals

For Brides

Lovelies, it has been quite a while since I have introduced you to one of my “friendors”, so today that changes. Today’s featured artist is the sweet, endearing, beautiful Macy of Macy Marie Photography AND Borrow My Vintage. That’s right! She is rocking two fantastic businesses and building relationships with couples all over the Midwest!

Macy and I met earlier this year at the Veils + Cocktails event and share so many of the same ideals in business and life. She also has a passion for giving well loved items new life and capturing life in it’s most beautiful moments. If you don’t know Macy and her sister Madison, her right hand gal, you need to get on that pronto!

Hi! I’m Macy and I own Macy Marie Photography and Borrow My Vintage, a vintage and rustic rental company out of Iowa City.

What is the story of Borrow My Vintage and how did you get started?

As my wedding photography business (Macy Marie Photography) has continued to grow over the past few years, I would have brides coming into my home and office to meet, while sitting there, brides would look around and see all my “stuff” and ask “where did you get that?! That’s what I’m looking for for my centerpieces!” I would simply say, “Well, I got it at Goodwill, but you can borrow it,” because let’s be honest, I thought my “stuff” was pretty awesome too and would look great in photos (details, details, details).

I have been thrifting since I was in high school. Everything in my home and closet are from thrift stores around town or even from thrift stores on vacation (my favorite!) My family would call me a “junk gypsy,” but now I have a business reason to continue collecting items!!

What is the story of MMP and how did you get into wedding photography?

Macy Marie Photography came from a camera as a high school graduation gift. From there I would practice taking pictures, post ads on craigslist for family photos, and from that craigslist ad, I received my first wedding inquiry. I was shocked! Could I actually photograph someone’s wedding?! Well, long story short, I can! And I did! Now 4 years later, MMP has created an experience for brides and grooms who love vintage décor, each other and who want to have fun and take romantic, timeless, and genuine photos on the best day of their lives!

What is your favorite part of a wedding?

Still after 4 years, MMP LOVES weddings and it has always remained the same. Our favorite part of the wedding day is the time we get with just the couple right after their first look and before they walk down the aisle. We, of course, also love spending time with the details of the wedding, getting to take a shoebox outside with every little detail the bride wants documented and creating beautiful and unique detail photographs.

What is your favorite wedding trend right now?

The wedding trend MMP and BMV love the most right now is the bohemian style wedding, lots of gold, gold candlesticks, beautiful florals, floral crowns, vintage furniture… I could go on and on but you can take a look at our “MMP Bride” Pinterest Board instead!

What tip(s) can you share with our readers about planning their wedding?

One of the only things you will have left from your wedding day are the timeless and amazing photographs you will receive. You will have these photographs to show to your kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids someday. That to me, is an amazing feeling, to be able to hold on to something that I created for the rest of your lives.

To be able to show your grandmother who was too ill to make it to the ceremony, or some of your family that live in a different country, or having that last picture of your grandfather before he passed away and not to mention that perfect Facebook profile picture you will have.  So remember when choosing a wedding photographer, to have one that you enjoy and want to be best friends with. That photographer is going to be there on the biggest day of your life and you need to make sure that you are a perfect match. The photographer will be the vendor you spend the most time with on your wedding, sometimes even more than your future husband! Make sure the photographer you choose matches your style and your personality as a couple.
